Mrs. Nita M. Ambani (DIN 03115198) is a Commerce Graduate from the University of Mumbai, as well as a diploma holder in Early Childhood Education. She is the Founder-Chairperson of Reliance Foundation, which has improved the lives of over 12 million people through its numerous initiatives in Rural Transformation; Health; Education; Sports for Development; Disaster Response; Arts, Culture and Heritage; and Urban Renewal.
Committed to building India as a multi-sports nation, Mrs. Ambani leads the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS) programme that was launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri. Narendra Modi, in July 2016. RFYS, a multi-city, multi-sports school and college competition, has reached out to 2 million children in 1,800 schools and colleges across eight Indian cities in its very first year. The Reliance Foundation Young Champs programme has awarded residential scholarships to 41 talented children who are receiving world-class football training, as well as quality education at Reliance Foundation schools in Mumbai. The grassroot programme to identify football talent has covered over 1.3 million children across India.
The Reliance Foundation Junior NBA programme has reached out to 3.3 million children, 45% of whom are girls, across 18 cities. In recognition of her outstanding contribution to the world of sports, Mrs. Ambani was elected as a member of the International Olympic Committee in August 2016, becoming the first Indian woman to achieve the honour.
She is the architect and a co-owner of Mumbai Indians, which won the IPL Trophy in 2013, 2015, and 2017; and the Champions League T20 title in 2011 and 2013. She is the Founder-Chairperson of Football Sports Development Limited that has revolutionised football in India by launching the Indian Super League in 2014.
Under her leadership, Reliance Foundation’s Bharat-India Jodo initiative aims to bridge the gap between rural and urban India by catalysing sustainable growth in rural areas. She successfully steered ‘Mission Rahat’ to provide relief and rehabilitation to the affected in the natural calamities that hit Uttarakhand in 2013, Jammu & Kashmir in 2014, and Chennai in 2015.
The Dhirubhai Ambani Scholarship Programme of the foundation has supported more than 11,300 scholars, 20% of whom are specially-abled, and almost 50% are girls.
